Sections (Field)
2019
The Field Sections appear as if they were cut directly from the earth—solid masses extracted from the landscape. The archaic traces of the plow leave behind clumps of soil with varying textures: fractured edges, sharp imprints, deep furrows, and jagged ridges. The immense force of the machine presses into the malleable earth, structuring the surface into peaks and valleys, light and shadow.

Liquid concrete is poured into custom-built molds, seeping into the smallest cavities left by the plow’s passage. Once set, the concrete captures these traces in positive relief, preserving the raw imprint of the land. The soil composition at each casting site influences the final appearance of the concrete, as the earth’s color and unique mineral texture become embedded in the material itself.
