Bodenhorizonte
2019
Five glass frames contain soils of different colors, appearing like cross-sections of mountains and landscapes—fragments of our world, samples of various layers of earth. In my collecting process, I am not drawn to the spectacular but to the ordinary, the self-evident, the often overlooked. Soil, ground, topography—the very foundation of our existence.
The distinct horizons of soil layers, collected from a single site in Tuscany, are made visible by carefully pouring the collected earth into parallel, suspended frames. This artificial re-stratification reveals the natural composition of the land, draws our focus to each layer of geological time.
